Start with the reason you open the app
A map full of places can mean several things. It might be a wish list, a collection of past trips, or a record of streets your phone observed you walking. Those are different promises. Before moving to another app, decide which record you would miss if it disappeared.
For a regular neighborhood walk, that may be the line around the block. For a trip from ten years ago, it may simply be the city and date. Neither needs to pretend to be the other.
Four directions to consider
| App | Starting point | Worth checking |
|---|---|---|
| Fog of World | Clear a map through movement | Track editing and GPX/KML import |
| Worldly | Manually log places visited | Whether a place log is enough for you |
| Pikmin Bloom | Walk with a game companion | Whether collecting and flowers motivate you |
| Nowhop · in development | Plan a day, choose an experience, keep walked paths | Try the preview; no App Store release here yet |
Fog of World documents track correction, multiple databases, snapshots and track imports. Those are meaningful strengths if you already have an archive. Worldly uses manual place entry instead of requesting your location. Pikmin Bloom ties walking to companions, growing flowers and activity memories. These summaries come from their official descriptions, not comparative field testing.
Where Nowhop takes a different starting point
Nowhop starts with “Make today special.” You can bring an ordinary appointment or a travel day into Plan, choose an optional experience in Discover, and keep a separate record of the places you actually walk. You do not have to swipe or complete a quest to keep your day.
If you only want a dedicated track archive, Fog of World deserves a close look. If your goal is to remember previous holidays without location access, consider Worldly. Nowhop is a direction to explore when deciding what to do and remembering where you went belong in the same personal app.
Before replacing your current app
Keep your original records. Check export and import formats, whether dates and gaps survive, what works without a connection, and how a backup is restored. A similar-looking map does not establish migration compatibility. Nowhop does not currently offer a verified Fog of World migration, and this preview is not a reason to delete an existing archive.
