Ask about four different kinds of data
First, ask where your plans and precise walking history are stored. Second, ask what a place search or directions request sends to its provider. Third, ask whether diagnostics or analytics exist. Finally, ask what happens when you export, share or back up a record.
These questions should have separate answers. A locally saved route can coexist with online search. An optional cloud backup can be useful while still being a copy outside the app’s local store.
Nowhop’s current boundaries
Personal plans and movement records stay in protected on-device stores. There is no Nowhop server receiving that history and no tracking SDK in the current app. Apple services support place search, Look Around and directions; public map sources provide additional geometry. Those requests can include the location or area needed to serve the request.
A manual export or Files backup is a deliberate action. If you place an exported file in iCloud Drive or another storage provider, that file follows the chosen provider’s protections. “On your phone” is not a promise of unconditional end-to-end encryption for every exported copy.
Offline recording is not an offline map guarantee
Saved records and available cached geometry can be used without a connection. Location recording can continue when the device and permissions supply usable updates. Downloading a new neighborhood, searching for a place or requesting a new route may need the network.
Do not assume that an offline area saved in Apple’s own Maps app is automatically a complete offline package for another app. Before a trip, distinguish the records you already have from the services you may need on arrival.
Quiet background work still uses energy
Nowhop keeps expensive map preparation separate from changing GPS and Fog state, bounds the nearby geometry it holds in memory, and keeps widget summaries small. Widgets do not run their own GPS collection. These are implementation choices, not a measured guarantee of a particular battery percentage.
Battery use depends on the phone, signal, movement, screen use and iOS conditions. Physical-device measurements remain necessary before release. The browser preview cannot measure any of those conditions and requests neither your location nor your calendars.
