List what you would lose by switching
Before comparing colors, identify the things you actually depend on: years of tracks, editing, a recovery copy, a particular device workflow or a meaningful share format. A new app with a pleasing map is not an improvement if it cannot preserve the archive you value.
Fog of World’s official site describes track editing, separate databases, snapshots and GPX/KML imports. Those are relevant capabilities for an established track collection. This summary comes from its provider description, not a claim that we tested every version side by side.
Decide whether the day needs more than a map
Nowhop starts from making an ordinary day more special. You can choose a nearby possibility from Map + or Plan, retain existing commitments, capture photos or short clips and review the resulting day. A full itinerary is optional, and a spontaneous outing can matter without adding a large amount of explored area.
Its four menus are Map, Plan, Hop and Passport. Discovery is a flow reached when you want an idea, rather than another destination you must visit to use the app. The movement record remains separate from the plan you intended to follow.
Test a change without risking the original
Use a small new sample day before moving an archive. Inspect a GPS gap, a repeated street, a photo without position and an export without a map. Check whether the app is honest about each case, not merely whether its demonstration looks complete.
Nowhop is still in development and is not an App Store release available from this page. It does not offer a verified Fog of World migration. Keep the original archive and its recovery arrangements; a comparison article is not evidence that formats, editing policies or totals are interchangeable.

Is personal-cloud synchronization the same as local storage?
No. Fog of World documents personal-cloud synchronization as a separate feature. Nowhop currently offers explicit manual backup and restore through Files, not automatic CloudKit synchronization of every journal change.
Can Nowhop import my Fog of World history today?
No verified migration is promised. Keep your source archive and test any future supported importer separately before relying on it for years of records.
Which app is better for correcting a track manually?
Fog of World documents a track editor. Do not assume Nowhop has matching editing tools simply because it can display explored geography. Choose according to the capability you need.
Does choosing Nowhop require planning every outing?
No. Plans support commitments, but Map + can begin a spontaneous choice and accepted movement is independent of whether an itinerary exists.
