Begin with the day you already have
Imagine finishing lunch early while a friend is still at work. You do not need a new afternoon itinerary. You need one possibility: a bookshop, a different street or somewhere to sit. Start from your present location and intended departure time. If you are browsing for another day, check that date before selecting anything.
In Plan, opening discovery from a gap carries that context. Map + works when there is no plan at all. An empty calendar is welcome; it is not an instruction to fill the whole day.
Set the search, then make one decision
Choose a travel mode and the kind of place you feel like trying, or keep the category open. Look through the resulting candidates, using the visible pass and choose controls if swiping is inconvenient. Read the place name and the journey estimate together; a striking street image is not enough to judge the trip.
The current flow adds the chosen place as an arrival-only Plan entry. It does not demand another visit-duration form, make a reservation or decide when you must leave.
Leave the next commitment in view
If there is a later appointment, its time and place provide a useful limit. An estimated journey to the candidate is only one leg. Ordering, queuing and traveling onward remain your decisions. Apple describes travel times as estimates that can differ from actual conditions.
For a tight gap, choose something close or pass. Do not interpret a candidate card as a guarantee that the whole outing fits. Nowhop keeps this choice simple rather than promising automatic schedule optimization.
When a candidate is not useful
Change one condition: a different category, shorter range or another start time. A missing street preview can fall back to a map; unavailable directions remain unknown. There is no reason to accept an uncertain trip just to finish the flow.
This describes Nowhop’s development build. Its browser samples demonstrate the interaction; they do not perform a live local search. See Apple’s explanation of travel-time estimates before treating an arrival time as a promise.
Questions this guide answers
Do I need a full Plan first?
No. Map + lets you begin with a spontaneous idea. A Plan gap is another entry point when you already have commitments. Neither requires building a complete itinerary.
Does choosing a place reserve it?
No. It adds a personal plan. Confirm tickets, opening hours and availability with the venue when those details matter. A place result is not a booking.
Does the app choose how long I stay?
No. The current choice records an arrival, not a mandatory visit length. You decide whether the available time and the next commitment leave enough room.
Do I need an iPhone with Apple Intelligence?
No. The current simplified discovery flow uses manual conditions and Apple place results. Apple-model condition drafting is not active; ordinary searching and choosing do not depend on it.
What if the estimated arrival is after my next appointment?
The conflict needs your explicit confirmation; choosing a candidate does not silently move the appointment. Check its time and place, then pass or consciously add the stop anyway.
