Audio should follow your recording action
A street sound or a brief laugh can make a small clip memorable. That does not justify leaving a microphone active while you browse a map or review a timetable. In the current build, audio belongs to the foreground capture session started by Record Video.
Photo mode has no need to request it. If iOS asks for access during video capture, decide based on whether you want sound in that clip. Permission is not an agreement to background recording or automatic upload.
Know what denial means
Declining the microphone leaves a visual video path available. A concise Mic off indication explains the conditional state. It should not label every clip Silent, because clips with permission can contain real audio and older clips may differ.
If you later change your mind, inspect the app’s microphone access in iPhone Privacy & Security settings. Apple’s privacy controls guide explains that permissions can be reviewed and revoked. Returning to the app does not retroactively add sound to an old recording.
Review before keeping it
Play the captured clip during review. Check whether it contains the intended image and sound before choosing Use. A microphone grant alone cannot prove a usable audio track exists; interruptions, device conditions and the actual media file still matter.
Retaking creates another attempt rather than repairing the old bytes. Keep the three-second framing simple: capture a brief real event, review it and continue with your day. The app is not a background voice diary.
Separate original sound from an exported movie
Saved source audio is retained with the validated clip and can be included in explicit Daily Hop output. A manual originals backup preserves the short original rather than relying on a flattened movie to recover it. Older silent captures remain silent; they are not rewritten.
Before sharing, listen as well as look. A route-free movie can still reveal a person’s name or a private conversation through sound. Nowhop does not promise automatic speech redaction or rights clearance for music audible in the background.
Questions this guide answers
Why does a photo not request microphone access?
It does not need sound. Permission is delayed until the explicit Video action so that the request matches what you are doing instead of appearing during unrelated browsing.
Will allowing the microphone repair earlier silent clips?
No. Permission affects a future recording session. An old clip without an audio track cannot recover sound that was never captured, and its original bytes should remain unchanged.
Does turning off the map make a clip private enough to share?
It removes selected map information, not everything the media reveals. Listen for names or conversations and inspect visible landmarks, documents and faces before sending it.
Will the clip’s sound continue over photos or map transitions?
No. Export confines source audio to the clip’s own scene. A following still photo or brief map bridge does not inherit it, and no automatic background soundtrack is added.
Can I record a ten-minute vlog or import an old gallery video?
No. The current camera limits each new clip to three seconds and has no general Photos-library import. A validated originals-backup restore is a separate recovery action, not a way to backdate arbitrary media.
