Start from a specific date
Select the day you want to review rather than expecting the main map to explain every visit at once. In Hop, Moments leads with the saved photos and clips; Route gives recorded geography more space. Passport’s city detail connects exploration to dated records.
A photo’s capture caption remains attached to that photo. The route clock can move onward while the shot is held. This helps show the transition without relabeling a lunchtime moment as something captured later that evening.
Use a familiar loop as a comparison
Imagine walking around the same park on Monday and returning Tuesday with a short detour. Tuesday has its own journey, including the familiar part. Only the additional explored ground should be considered new. Counting the entire loop again as new area would exaggerate the change.
The development build deduplicates coverage separately from dated movement. A simplified display at a wide zoom is a drawing choice, not a new statistical denominator. Look at distance and newly revealed area as separate summaries rather than trying to make them match.
Choose the context before creating a movie
Daily Hop export lets you choose a time range and whether to include a map. When a map is included, the available history presentation controls how earlier exploration supports the selected day. The selection is an output decision; it does not darken or delete your saved history permanently.
Review the actual preview after changing a range. A shorter edit should not include an earlier route merely because it was visible on the full-day map. Shared location deserves deliberate attention; Apple’s privacy controls are useful context, but they do not replace inspecting the visible content of a movie.
Questions this guide answers
Can I show only part of a day?
Yes. Export From and To choose the selected day’s time range. They do not edit original timestamps or remove material from your private day collection.
Does dimming earlier exploration change my progress?
No. It is a composition choice. The underlying history and deduplicated exploration total remain independent of how much context you display.
Does yesterday’s route fill a gap in today’s recording?
No. Earlier geometry can provide context, but it is not proof of where you were during a missing interval today. A current cursor must follow supported observations.
