Read a request as a specific question
Searching for a café near a chosen point needs a search area. Requesting a route needs an origin, destination and transport choice. Showing an unfamiliar neighborhood may need data for the viewed area. These actions cannot be described honestly as using no external information service.
Apple’s Maps privacy explanation describes request information and its handling. It should not be stretched into a claim that a third-party app sends nothing merely because its database is local. Nowhop’s own Privacy Policy explains the boundaries of its implementation.
Keep personal storage distinct from public downloads
A public geometry pack describes a neighborhood’s buildings and roads. Downloading it is not the same operation as posting your observed route. However, the requested area and ordinary connection information can still reveal context to the service delivering it.
The current app keeps its personal history on the iPhone. It does not need to send a whole day’s camera originals or calendar archive just to draw available terrain. A useful privacy explanation names both what remains local and what a particular service must receive.
Inspect the result of sharing separately
Map output inside a video is visible information, not merely a network request. If you include the map and a place caption, a recipient can learn from the artwork even when the export contains no hidden GPS metadata. Source credits and public geographic labels serve another purpose and are not a privacy toggle.
Before sharing, choose the range and whether the map belongs in the story. Review the finished movie, including any source clip audio. This development workflow gives you an explicit decision point; it does not promise that recognizable scenes become anonymous.
Questions this guide answers
Does a backup checksum make the file private?
No. A checksum checks integrity, not encryption or authorship. Someone with the file can read its contents. A cloud destination uses its provider’s protections; standard iCloud and eligible Advanced Data Protection are not interchangeable promises.
Does Apple receive my entire Nowhop database?
That is not the described design. Individual Apple service requests can contain relevant queries and coordinates; the local journal is not uploaded wholesale as the price of using a map.
Can I search without revealing any search area?
A nearby search needs geographic context. You can understand and limit the action, but the app should not promise an area-specific answer without a relevant provider request.
Does hiding the map remove all location clues?
No. Visible landmarks, captions within the original photo or spoken details can still identify a place. Inspect the actual media rather than relying on a single setting.
